Easy as Taking a Pill<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While some other sedation options require an IV or wearing a nasal mask throughout your time in the dentist\u2019s chair, oral conscious sedation is as simple as filling and taking a prescribed pill. You get a pill from the pharmacy and take it about an hour before your visit as instructed\u2014and that\u2019s it! This sedation method requires minimal effort on your part, and it will begin working by the time your appointment starts, keeping you in a relaxed, content state throughout treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dream-Like State<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As its name suggests, oral conscious sedation does not render you unconscious, which means you will probably stay awake throughout the procedure. In other words, you should be able to respond to your dentist\u2019s questions and instructions and be somewhat aware of what\u2019s around you. However, you will feel as though you are in a dream, meaning that you will not be stressed or bothered. You may feel warm and light, almost like you\u2019re floating. While this pill works, you will not be able to drive. In other words, you will need to have a family member or friend drive you to and from your dentist\u2019s office to prevent an accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because oral conscious sedation uses strong medication, after the effects of the pill wear off, you will probably find that your specific memories of the appointment are a bit fuzzy. Don\u2019t worry\u2014it\u2019s a normal side effect and can be particularly beneficial if you have severe dental anxiety. As the saying goes: ignorance is bliss!
